PRODUCT USE Why use bagged products? Easy answer, it saves time and money. Consider this: you have a 20'x20' area that you are mulching at 2". You would need 2.5 cubic yards of mulch to cover this, or about 34 2cubic foot bags of mulch. You go to your closest bulk supplier, let's say the bulk supplier is 10 miles away from the jobsite, so round trip would be 20 miles. Your F350 dump truck gets 9 miles per gallon of gas at $3.00 per gallon, so the gas cost alone is over $6.00. It takes you at least an hour to make the trip. You buy 3 yards of mulch, just to be on the safe side, at $27.00 per yard, total for mulch and gas, not counting paying yourself, wear and tear on your truck, come to $87.00. You get to the jobsite, spread your mulch, and came up short. (Some bulk suppliers say a scoop of product is a yard, it could be, or it may not be a yard, depends on the scoop size) So, you go back, another $6.00 in gas, another wasted hour, more wear and tear on your truck, to get one more yard of mulch. Now you are in the total job for over $120.00, and at least a half of day wasted. Now, let's try this, 2.5 cubic yards equals 34 2cubic foot bags of mulch. There is 65 bags on the pallet, the pallet has been delivered to your shop. You load 40 bags on your truck, just in case you measured wrong, travel straight to the jobsite, unload and spread one bag at a time, no wheel barrel needed, and guess what, you used 33.5 bags of mulch. You finished in two hours, collected your payment for the job, and were at your next job by mid-morning. Your cost per bag was around $3.50, giving you a total of $119.00. Using bagged products actually on this job saved $1.00, no wasted material, no shortage, no wasted time, and no wasted gas. If you are charging $20.00 per man hour, on this job alone, you made an extra $41.00, do that 5 days a week, and you have just pocketed an extra $205.00, and do it for a whole year, you have just given yourself a $10,660.00 raise. All from only using bagged landscape products.
